Why is it that successive Ministers of Tourism cant get their head around the detrimental effects of freedom camping on the clean, green image of New Zealand. Let us not burden the rate payers of each region with the costs of providing more facilities for the freedom campers. No, lets take it from the taxpayers of New Zealanders to pay for it. Mm, is this Paula Bennett reading us the book entitled The Emperors New Clothes. One of our most pristine locations in the South Island is extolled by freedom campers as the place to stay and then they complain that it has only one toilet. Has anyone thought about putting a Motor Camp there. Oh no you cant do that says the government. It is in a National Park and we will never give you consent to do that. We would rather let our international visitors stay there for free and destroy its beauty. The time has come to put an arrival tax on all international visitors. Oh, we will never do that says Paula Bennett. Yes Paula, a tourist couple may spend at least $10,00.00 to come here for 2 weeks holiday. I would hate to burden each of them with a $10.00 tax. This might scare them away. Somehow you are out of touch with the thinking people of NZ. Roll on the election!
