Jacinda Ardern and Grant Robertson will tell us that the economy is doing well and that unemployment is low despite the current environment. I wonder which business could lose it number customer/earner and still say there company was doing fine. Tourism, our number one earner, was down by 98% two years running and now it look like it will be the same for 2022. And all of the jobs losses in the tourism, hospitality, and accommodation business. Where are those numbers? Sorry, I forget, most of those workers were casual or part time workers who cant get the unemployment benefit. And who conveniently don’t show up in the unemployment statistics. The people who have lost their jobs would have been second income earners in families where that second payslip made a big difference to their family life!
